Annette Olofson Textile Artist

Annette Olofson is a Swedish-Australian textile artist specialising in unique, high-quality loom woven fashion and home items.

I grew up in a small town in the north of Sweden where the forests stretch out into infinity dotted with red and white timber houses.

Nature was our friend as we saw months of snow and darkness slowly transformed in the spring by the incredible beauty of the lakes and flowers and berries covering the ground amidst the trees.

Deer and moose, fields of bright yellow raps, and bears and wildlife were the norm, as were skis and ice skates. This was a world of verdant greens, blue summers, red wooden houses, long white winters and a deep awareness of light.

Living in Australia has given me another set of colours and experiences. The reds and the blues, the purples and the greens. The huge open spaces, bush, fields, rocks.

MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME TO SEW AND TO DESIGN FROM THE AGE OF 5.

She was a fashion designer. My brother became globally known for his work on 3D art and computer graphics. I concentrated on illustrating with textiles and exhibited a number of times.

As a textile artist, I now create loom woven scarves, shawls, throws and textile art pieces with a desire to let people experience the benefit of quality handmade items. You can accessorise really well with these in winter or summer to create a stunning look – the beauty of handmade and how special it makes you feel.

We have been fortunate to have our own art gallery/studio in the Byron Bay hinterland for many years with many visitors coming to see our art. We have now moved to the village of McLaren Flat near Adelaide and welcome visitors by appointment.

I am inspired by the energy, peacefulness and beauty of this region and try to capture it in my work and enjoy it greatly when people feel really good in one of the items I have made.
